Sherwin-Williams Aerospace Coatings announced a multi-year contract with Cirrus Aircraft to utilize its SKYscapes® Basecoat-Clearcoat Polyurethane Enamel system on its complete series of award-winning aircraft.
SKYscapes basecoat-clearcoat provides superior appearance and durability and its latest, patented technology is AMS 3095 certified. This complete paint system cures at ambient temperature in half the time of other single-stage aerospace coatings systems. Designed to meet demanding aviation market needs, this innovative coating system features resins specially formulated to deliver: brighter, richer colors; higher gloss retention and advanced hiding qualities; brighter, better hiding colors than traditional paint systems, and its superior technology can actually cut as much as 30 percent from OEM paint process time.
Products being used in the Cirrus system include: CM0481030 Composite Primer SKYscapes basecoat on solid colors SKYscapes General Aviation basecoat for all effect colors (metallic and micas) CM0850CC1 SKYscapes General Aviation Clearcoat.
According to Rick Hollander, vice president, manufacturing, “We have chosen to use the Sherwin-Williams Aerospace SKYscapes 850 Series polyurethane basecoat and clearcoat paints, which passed muster in 2012 to meet the AMS 3095 Aerospace Material Standard of premium exterior paint.”
“We are thrilled to be collaborating with Sherwin-Williams’ expert team, crafting the highest performing and aesthetic paints for our fleet’s specific needs.”
“We are proud to be partnering with such a fine aircraft OEM such as Cirrus Aircraft,” said Julie Voisin - global product manager for Sherwin-Williams Aerospace Coatings. “We understand the quality and durability their superior aircraft demand, and look forward to providing and servicing them with the best aircraft finishes available.”
Cirrus Aircraft recently delivered its 6,000th new airplane. The accomplishment comes just 16 years after the company delivered its first production aircraft and on the heels of a strong 2014 performance where the SR-series of aircraft maintained its position as the best-selling four/five-place aircraft in the world for the 12th year in a row.
In addition, the company plans the upcoming introduction of its Vision SF50® Personal Jet, with over 550 positions reserved, it aims to revolutionize personal and regional business transportation. The Vision SF50 aircraft is a revolutionary personal jet designed to fill the significant gap between high-performance piston singles and light jets, and it will also be painted with the SKYscapes system.
Meeting the highest in OEM standards and qualifications, Sherwin-Williams provides innovative aerospace coatings designed to give all types of commercial, military and general aviation aircraft longer-lasting coverage with increased durability. This gives aircraft more “in-service” time allowing for longer periods between paint jobs.
