Dover Chemical Corporation, which doubled production capacity last year for its patented Doverphos S-9228 high-performance phosphite, announced a second expansion that will double it again by mid-2011. The additive improves color and processing stability in polymers used in automotive parts, household appliances, electronics, powder coatings and packaging. Doverphos S-9228 is food contact sanctioned worldwide for use with all polymer systems and all types of foods, with no temperature limitations.
"These expansions are multimillion dollar investments by our parent corporation, ICC Industries, to supply an ever-growing demand for this product,” said Dover Chemical’s president, Dwain Colvin. “Dover Chemical is backward integrated to basic raw materials to allow us to compete economically and offer an assured, high quality supply.”
Doverphos S-9228 is a free-flowing solid phosphite antioxidant that provides thermal stability and low volatility under extended high-temperature conditions. Atmospheric and in-polymer hydrolytic stability prevents the formation of black specs and it provides processing protection against discoloration and thermal degradation. Key properties include high molecular weight, low volatility and high phosphorous content. It provides performance in polypropylene (PP), high density polyethylene (HDPE), linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) and high temperature polymers such as polyamides, polyesters and polycarbonate (PC).
