and corporate development.
Masco Corp. reported net sales of $2.4 billion for paint and coatings, comprising 32 percent of total sales for 2020.
The company produces architectural coatings including paints, primers, specialty paint products, stains and waterproofing products. The products are sold in the U.S. and Canada through do-it-yourself channels under brands including Behr and Kilz.
The company’s high profile Behr products are sold through The Behr Process Corporation to The Home Depot, the segment’s and the company’s largest company.
In his 2020 letter to shareholders, president and CEO Keith Allman said, “In our Decorative Architectural Products segment, with our leading brands, Behr and Kilz, and our strong channel partnerships, we capitalized on the resurgence of do-it-yourself (DIY) paint projects, resulting in full-year growth of over 20 percent in this end-user segment. While our pro paint business declined slightly over the prior year, we experienced solid improvement in demand as the year ended. We expect pro paint demand to continue in 2021 as professional contractors increasingly re-enter homes and buildings to serve their customers. Our builders’ hardware business also benefited in 2020 from increased consumer demand and contributed to the segment’s results by delivering solid growth.”
Behr Paint Company Announces 2021 Color of the Year
Behr Paint Company announced its 2021 Color of the Year, Canyon Dusk S210-4, an earthy terracotta shade.
The landscape-inspired hue, part of Behr’s Color Trends 2021 palette delivers on what everyone needs this year: Elevated comfort.
Canyon Dusk is a rich, neutral color that creates an atmosphere of grounding warmth. The tawny, raw, earthy hue expresses a unifying desire to find solid footing on life’s journey, metaphorically connecting to the Earth, to re-establish mental and physical balance and provide a fresh start to the new year.
“There is something so reassuring about dusk, the moment just after sunset, which brings the promise of a new day,” said Erika Woelfel, VP of color and creative services at Behr. “The illuminating, free-spirited Canyon Dusk is a color that can be found in a variety of places, from an awe-inspiring desert landscape to the color of sunbaked clay. Wherever it is found, we share a collective need for these moments of comfort and inspiration in the days ahead.”
Canyon Dusk’s neutrality serves as the foundation for an array of design styles, in both residential and commercial environments.
Designers and DIYers can pair the color with jewel tones or pastels, making it a natural fit for modern, casual and traditional styles. Canyon Dusk stands out against the soft and light of Smoky White BWC-13 and dramatic black of Broadway PPU18-20, also from Behr’s Color Trends 2021 Palette, allowing the Color of the Year to make a statement.
Meanwhile, Behr’s Nocturne Blue HDC-CL-28 serves as a rich, complementary hue to Canyon Dusk. Behr’s 2021 Color of the Year also provides a refreshing, new selection for exterior siding, doors and intricate accent features for both homes and commercial spaces.
“From seasoned DIYers to first-time painters, it’s been inspiring to see people, really embracing opportunities to enhance their spaces during this time when we are all in our homes more than ever before,” said Jodi Allen, global chief marketing officer for Behr. “Whether creating an unexpected accent wall or a simple color change, paint can make a huge visual impact, and it’s one of the most affordable and straightforward DIY projects to tackle.”
