Benjamin Moore launches Aura Exterior

Following the nationwide rollout of Aura Interior, Benjamin Moore recently introduced Aura Exterior.
Three years in development, Benjamin Moore unveiled the 100% acrylic interior Aura on the West Coast last year and completed the product’s nationwide rollout earlier this year. Aura is also now available in an exterior edition. As with Aura Interior, Aura Exterior features Benjamin Moore’s Color Lock technology partnered with a waterborne colorant system. ColorLock technology locks in the color, enabling Aura to cover most surfaces in a single coat, according to the company.

By creating a waterborne colorant system, Benjamin Moore says that no additional VOCs are introduced into the product when colorant is added. Aura Exterior is available in three finishes: Flat, Low Lustre and SemiGloss.

Valspar introduces Duramax Semi-Gloss

The Valspar Corporation has introduction Valspar Duramax in Semi-Gloss for consumers looking for a full spectrum of finishes in premium quality exterior paints. Valspar Duramax Semi-Gloss joins Duramax Flat and Duramax Satin paints to offer consumers one-coat protection and durability.

Valspar Duramax paint is infused with Crosslinking Ti3 technology for maximum adhesion, UV protection and long-lasting durability. Drying quickly, Valspar Duramax creates a thicker finish to help hide minor surface defects and small cracks.

Water-based and 100% acrylic, Valspar Duramax cleans up easily with soap and water and is low odor. Valspar Duramax Semi-Gloss is available at Lowe’s nationwide.

West System’s Brand 405 Filleting Blend Adhesive Filler.
West System launches new adhesive filler

West System has introduced Brand 405 Filleting Blend Adhesive Filler designed to provide structural strength with no sacrifice in appearance of wooden boats.

Mixed with West System epoxy, this wood-toned, high-density filler is good for bonding joints on naturally-finished wood. Boatbuilders and restorers often use it to create smooth, strong fillets—cove-shaped applications that bridge the inside corner of a joint, creating an epoxy brace that adds strength.

It’s also good for gap-filling and works well in bonding layers of wood strips, veneers, planks, sheets and cores in laminating projects. It can also be used to bond fasteners into place, which improves their load-carrying capacity. Epoxy mixed with 405 Filleting Blend cures to a dark brown.

International Paint introduces Intergard 1033

International Paint LLC, an Akzo Nobel company, has introduced Intergard 1033, an advanced low VOC chalk white epoxy finish developed specifically to help maintain a clean white appearance on steel or concrete surfaces within industrial environments. The coating’s abrasion-resistant properties and self-cleaning capabilities also help reduce maintenance costs, while extending the structure’s lifeclycle.  Intergard 1033 can be brushed, rolled or spray-applied directly onto concrete, or over primed steel.

Pettit Marine Paint’s Vivid Antifouling
Pettit Marine Paint’s new Vivid Antifouling

Pettit Marine Paint has introduced Vivid Antifouling, which remains effective after repeated launching and hauling, making it ideal for trailerable or rack-stored boats. Vivid’s dual biocides, copper thicynate and zinc pyrithione produce effective protection against aggressive fouling and slime.  Environmentally friendly, Vivid meets all air pollution regulations. This multi-season coating adheres well to fiberglass, wood or aluminum. Vivid can be applied with a roller or brush and can be used over most existing antifouling. Vivid Antifouling is available in six bright and clean base colors, including black and white. These base hues can be mixed to create 24 custom shades.

Excalibur Paint & Coatings launches Aqua-Thane

Excalibur Paint & Coatings’ has introduced Aqua-Thane, a patent pending, 2K water-borne acrylic polyurethane technology. Test results to date have concluded that this environmentally friendly, low VOC (less than 50 grams/liter) HAPS-free system meets or exceeds the performance properties of high performance solvent-borne systems. Film build of 4-8 mils wet is achieved without foaming, gassing or flow problems. Aqua-Thane exhibits depth of image, abrasion, solvent and chemical resistance including Skydrol, yet maintains hardness and is flexible. It has good adhesion to a wide variety of surfaces including steel, aluminum, galvanized metals (both electroplated and hot – dipped), various stainless steel, PVC and carbon/fiberglass composites. For ferrous and non-ferrous substrate, abrasive blasting is not required prior to application.
