Illinois Tool Works (ITW), a maker of adhesive and sealants for OEM and maintenance and repair, has acquired Hartford, CT-based Permatex, a maker of sealants, adhesives and other products for automotive after-market and industrial maintenance applications. ITW plans to retain the Permatex brand name and will make the unit a subsidiary of ITW Performance Polymers, which is based in Danvers, MA.
Permatex was founded in 1909 as a maker of shellac for bonding bicycle tires to their rims. Today, its range of products encompasses adhesives and sealants as well as hand cleaners, automotive appearance products and fuel additives.
