Akzo Nobel Reports Rise
In First Quarter Sales
● Akzo Nobel reported that sales for its coatings business were
€1.337 billion in the first quarter 2002, up from €1.314
billion in the first quarter 2001. According to the company,
the decorative coatings segment showed improved
growth, while the marine and protective coatings and car
refinishes segments sustained the positive growth trends
of last year.
The industrial activities segment turned in a mixed
performance with lower results in powder coatings in
Europe and for the transportation coatings activities,
while the wood and coil coatings businesses improved.
Capital expenditures in the coatings market decreased
in the first quarter 2002 to €25 million down from €36
million in the same period last year.
